Her early experience in mental health was in setting up innovative community outreach programs in the Hispanic community. Upon moving to California in 1977, she worked in an outpatient/inpatient alcoholism program where she was instrumental in helping to set up their family program. She also worked in an acute care hospital setting where she was the director of the social services department. Since 1985, Ms. Kappner has practiced in the South Bay area as a psychotherapist. She works with adolescents and adults, in individual, couple, and family therapy. She has also worked with many of the Employee Assistance Programs of the aerospace and airline industries. Ms. Kappner’s primary orientation is in providing short-term, goal oriented treatment. She believes in an active relationship with her clients, providing regular feedback as well as in assigning specific psychotherapeutic tasks.
